Dear Arcturus Early Childhood Teacher Trainees,
It’s golden in the garden
It’s golden in the glen,
It’s golden, golden, golden
September’s here again.
The words to this September song always come to me at this time of year. I remember just how amazed I always was at the beginning of the school year when the children would arrive glowing golden from the summer. The fruits of their growth and development over the summer months were so apparent and were like blessings on the year to come. And so it is that we as adults also sense the golden harvest of our own lives as we venture into new experiences of growing and learning. At this Michaelmas time, we can feel the strength and courage that accompanies us on our way. I wish for you all an extraordinary year–a rich and golden harvest!
Here is a little finger play inspired by the lovely sunflowers.
Sunflower, sunflower, standing straight and tall
(Hold forearm up and create loose fist)
Your petals are golden, one and all
(Gently unfurl your fingers to create petals)
Gently you bow and you bend in the breeze
(Gently move arm in swaying motion)
Til a little bird comes and nibbles some seeds
(Create bird with other hand–flying and nibbling)
All blessings on the year ahead!
